Watson is a famous molecular biologist in the world. He is internationally known for his and his colleagues' discovery of the structure of DNA. And today we will like to introduce more about Watson to you guys.
Watson was born in Chicago, USA, he was very smart and eager to learn when he was a child. He often thinks about problems and is good at asking questions. When he was a child, he gained a lot of knowledge by reading the World Yearbook, so he won the title of "gifted child" in a radio program competition and won a prize of 100 dollars. He used the money to buy a pair of binoculars to watch birds. This is also his common hobby with his father.
Because of his exceptional talent, Watson entered the University of Chicago at the age of 15. In college, he did well in all the courses he liked, such as Biology and Zoology. While the courses he doesn't like are not so good. During this period, Watson's talent in the field of biology has been revealed. And because he was so interested in birds, he once planned to be a graduate student to learn how to become a curator of the Bird Museum in the Natural History Museum.
After completing his doctoral studies in 1950, Watson came to Europe. He is determined to solve the problem of DNA structure. He was lucky to work with Francis, both of whom were very interested in the structure of DNA. When they finally built the first precise model of DNA in 1953, they were considered one of the greatest discoveries in science so far. In 1962, Watson and Crick shared the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine with Wilkins. Morris Wilkins and Rosalind Franklin provided the necessary data on the structure of DNA. Watson specially wrote a book for this purpose – Double Helix: The Story of Discovering DNA Structure.
It is worth mentioning that on October 16, 2007, Watson said in his speech tour that blacks are not as smart as whites; the idea that different races have the same level of intelligence is an illusion. This statement immediately aroused fierce criticism from many quarters, and even Watson's original research institute also publicly stated that it would revoke all his honorary positions. However, Watson still claimed that Western countries' policies towards African countries are wrongly based on the assumption that blacks are as smart as whites, but experiments have proved that this is not the case. Last but not least, Watson even claimed that the genes that cause the difference in human IQ could not be found within 10 years. Sadly, we need to admit that as of now, scientists still have not made a clear conclusion about the IQ gene.
However, Watson's view has not been proven yet. The proposition of this view also caused me to ponder whether the intelligence of black people is the same as that of white people. If not, what causes the differences in intelligence between different races?
