Voluntary Research Assistant (Foundation Models & Cross-disciplinary AI Applications)

The AIMING Lab, led by Huaxiu Yao at CS and SDSS, is seeking motivated voluntary research assistants to work on cross-disciplinary foundation model applications, including large language models (LLMs) and vision-language models (VLMs). Application areas span healthcare, education, geoscience, mathematics, and chemistry. For outstanding candidates, there will also be opportunities to engage in more fundamental research on agentic AI, AI reasoning, AI alignment, embodied AI, and reinforcement learning.
Requirements
Completed coursework in machine learning
Strong proficiency in Python and PyTorch (mandatory)
Solid academic record (high GPA; exceptions may be made for exceptional candidates)
Self-motivated and able to commit 15+ hours per week
Preferred / Plus Skills:
Experience in web development (front-end or back-end)
