R&D Workshop: From Literature Review, Hypothesis Formation to Project Design
Sat, Jun 14
|Virtual Zoom Meeting (link in ticket)
Dr. Junjie Ma from CMU is here to walk us through the real-life process of research development—how to use literature review to check what’s known, what’s unknown, and then form a hypothesis. Based on the hypothesis, you'll learn how to design a real project to test it.

About the event
About the Speaker
Dr. Junjie Ma is a postdoctoral researcher at Carnegie Mellon University with over a decade of experience in microbiome and genetic research. Their work bridges microbiology and nutrition science, exploring how dietary changes can reshape the gut microbiome and affect conditions like obesity and diabetes. With a strong background in both lab research and real-world health applications, they offer valuable insight into how scientific questions become impactful discoveries.
About the Workshop
How do scientists turn a question into a full research project? This two-session workshop will take you behind the scenes of research development using a fascinating and timely example: Can exercise improve diabetes by reshaping the gut microbiota?
In Session 1, you'll learn how to conduct a focused literature review to evaluate what’s already known, identify gaps in knowledge, and build a research hypothesis.
In Session 2, we’ll shift to experimental design. You’ll explore how to…
